
Amidst the government shutdown, programs like SNAP are going unfunded.
To help meet the anticipated need, Governor Kehoe announced that the state is transferring $10.6 million to Missouri Area Agencies on Aging to provide meals to seniors across the state. The funding is coming from the Senior Services Growth and Development fund.
Additionally, $5 million will be given to Missouri food banks using Temporary Assistance for Needy Families funding.
We wanted to share some food resource links to help families in need. Please share these resources with families you believe may be facing food insecurity.
The group Feeding Missouri has an interactive food resource page to help families find the food bank in their area.
The nonprofit organization Harvesters website provides this list of resources in the Kansas City area.
Operation Food Search on the St. Louis side of the state provides this information to help families find food.
Second Harvest is helping families in Northwest Missouri with these resources.
Finally, Missouri Farmers Care provides this 15 page list of Missouri food resources in a downloadable PDF.
All food banks are currently seeking support and donations. They are all accepting financial donations and food donations. When donating food, please call ahead to find out about their greatest needs or to get a list of priority foods.
