Riverview Gardens Now Requires In-Person Appointment Before Transferring to an Accredited School District:  Deadline is February 3, at 4 p.m.

Jan. 16, 2014 (ST. LOUIS) – In its ongoing effort to ensure all Missouri children receive the quality education they deserve, the Children’s Education Alliance of Missouri (CEAM) continues to help facilitate school transfers for students in unaccredited districts who choose to enroll in an accredited school district.  To that end, the organization is reaching out to all parents in the Riverview Gardens School District (RGSD) to let them know that Riverview Gardens, has established a new process for transferring that requires an in-person appointment before transferring to an accredited school district.  This new requirement must be fulfilled before February 3, 2014 at 4 p.m. Parents whose children are already enrolled in a new receiving district and wish to stay, need to fill out an “Intent to Return” form and send it back to their children’s new school district, also by February 3, at 4pm.

“Unfortunately, this new requirement will serve as a barrier for students and parents who wish to transfer,” said Kate Casas, state director, CEAM.  “A lot of parents aren’t aware of this new step and will be in danger of missing this critical deadline, which will mean that their child won’t be able to exercise their right to transfer, as guaranteed under the Outstanding Schools Act.”

In an effort to inform parents of this new requirement, CEAM will continue to hold their Student Transfer Town Halls, ensuring parents in both Normandy and RGSD have all the appropriate information, paperwork and any other resources they may need. CLICK HERE FOR UPCOMING TOWN HALLS.

*Attendees are encouraged to RSVP at 314-561-8646.

As in the past, parents unable to provide transportation to the district of their choosing must select the following district(s): Normandy – first choice, Francis Howell. RGSD – first choice, Mehlville; second choice, Kirkwood.

The student transfer documents are online at http://www.ceamteam.org//student-transfer-toolkit/.  For more information, contact Lorna Kurdi, director of advocacy and outreach, CEAM, 314-561-8646, or Lorna@CEAMteam.org.

The Children’s Education Alliance of Missouri (CEAM) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation whose mission is to improve Missouri’s K-12 education system by advancing education policies that ensure all Missouri families have the right to choose the education they determine is best for their children. http://www.ceamteam.org//
