When people hear the words school choice, they often think it’s just about politics or policy. But for us parents, it’s something much deeper. School choice isn’t about parties or platforms — it’s about survival. It’s about having the power to choose what’s best for our children’s education when the system fails them — or when it never provided the options they needed to succeed in the first place.
We’re parents who have done everything we were told to do. We’ve volunteered in classrooms, attended parent-teacher conferences, and stayed fully involved in our children’s education. But many of us found ourselves trapped in school districts that were unaccredited, unsafe, or simply not meeting our children’s needs.
We watched our kids struggle in classrooms that didn’t understand them or know how to teach them. We spoke up — and were silenced. Some of us were even shut out or banned for daring to ask for better. But instead of giving up, we came together. We started asking questions, connecting with other parents, learning our rights, and standing up for our children.
We discovered something powerful: we aren’t alone. And that changed everything.
We found that other parents and organizations were already fighting to make sure every child has access to a quality education. One of those was the Children’s Education Alliance of Missouri (CEAM), which helped us discover resources we never knew existed. We learned about programs that gave us the power to choose what was best for our kids — options like:
For the first time, we weren’t just being told what we had to accept — we had a say in our children’s education.
We’ve seen the difference it makes when our kids are in the right environment. We’ve watched them grow, regain confidence, and rediscover a love for learning. That’s what we want for every child: a happy, healthy, and safe educational environment that prepares them to succeed in life and contribute to society.
This fight is bigger than any one of us. We’re part of a growing movement of parents who are saying: enough is enough. We’re organizing, speaking out, and making sure our voices are heard — because no one knows our children better than we do.
School choice isn’t about tearing anything down. It’s about building something better for every child, in every neighborhood. It’s about giving families the freedom to choose what’s best — whether that’s public, private, charter, virtual, or home education.
So the next time you hear the words school choice, think of the students. Think of the parents. Think of the supporters. Think of the advocates. Think of us — the mothers, fathers, and guardians who refused to stay silent.
We’re not just asking for better school choice options.
We’re demanding them — because we know what’s at stake: our children’s future.
For us, this isn’t just a policy.
It’s a lifeline.
If you’re a parent who feels trapped, frustrated, or unheard, know this: you are not alone. Reach out to us at the Children’s Education Alliance of Missouri. We’ll stand with you, help you navigate your options, and make sure your child receives the quality education they deserve.
