History

Based in St. Louis, CEAM was founded in 2006 and celebrated 10 years of education advocacy in 2016.

In the beginning, CEAM ran on mostly loaned staff and volunteers. In 2011, CEAM received capacity building support that allowed for a dedicated staff of four. Today the organization receives funding from hundreds of individual donors and a major foundation grant .

Over the past four years CEAM stood alongside parents to navigate bureaucracy and put kids first. In 2014 and 2015, CEAM focused efforts on the parents and students in Normandy and Riverview Gardens, Missouri’s failing districts.

Not only did CEAM help parents through the murky waters of transfer paperwork and unclear expectations, but when the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), the Normandy Schools Collaborative, and several “receiving” school districts collectively bar students from continued transfer, CEAM supported a lawsuit representing them.
